The new Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and Disaster Relief Warehouse (DRW) facilities were erected in Punta Gorda, which is the administrative capital of Toledo District. It is located in the west coast of the Caribbean Sea, in the south of the country.
South Belize is a particular challenging location for the extreme tropical weather, hand labor limitations, logistic difficulties and scant material availability. Most construction and finishing materials were imported in order to successfully fulfill this project.
The buildings constructed were the first phase of a larger construction program of Belize’ NEMO. The purpose of these buildings is to support the emergency rescue operations and logistics of the civil defense administration.
