Puerto Piña is a small coastal community in the province of Darien in Panama. This location is extremely remote, accessible only by barge or light planes.
The project consisted on the design and construction of an environmentally friendly pier, with a total length of 160m of fixed and floating sections, access path, and marine grade electrical provisions. The pier is operated by the border control police department of Panama. Protection of land and marine biodiversity was a specific requirement to successfully deliver the project.
The project demanded a strong planning to coordinate for weather and tide conditions in site, for shore-line foundations, and anchoring system. A specialized subcontractor was hired to install pier sections, which were constructed using Seaflex® technology.
